'X-Men' Writers Land 'Top Gun' Sequel Gig

Just about one year ago, Tony Scott sent his "Top Gun" fans into a frenzy over the news that a sequel is not only planned, but Scott will take the directorial reins on the project. There has been little forward movement since then, but now we have word that "X-Men: First Class" writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have been hired to helm the script.

According to Variety, Miller and Stentz are in final negotiations to get to work on the screenplay, with Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison signed on to produce.

The trade publication claimed that there are no plot details to reveal yet, but we're hoping the "First Class" writing duo sticks with the outline Scott shared with us last year.

"It's not even a reinvention, it's not even a sequel. It's a re-thinking," Scott said of his plans for the sequel. "What inspired me is that the world today is great, it's so different from the world we touched originally. It's really run by guys sitting in Nevada on computers playing war games."

Scott teased that the film will focus on the new generation of fighter pilots. "It's a mixture of that, and it's the end of the generation of fighter pilots. Not in a complete end to the generation, because these guys they go up in F-35s and they carry 10 drones with them. [But] it's a very different movie," he said.

But the most pressing question on everyone's minds is: Will Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer reprise their iconic roles?

"I'm gonna withhold that information," Scott told MTV News. "I can't say anything. I'm talking with Jerry [Bruckheimer], and I'm going to withhold [those other details]."

Reese Witherspoon's Griffith Park Romp with Ava

Enjoying some quality family time, Reese Witherspoon was spotted at Griffith Park in Los Angeles yesterday (October 19).

The ?Sweet Home Alabama? babe picked up her daughter Ava and looked lovely in a striped top with dark wash jeans and shiny leather boots.

During a recent interview, Reese shared that back in 1999 she sought advice from Jennifer Aniston while working as a guest star on ?Friends.?

?In all my enthusiasm, I completely forgot something crucial. ? I had never been on television (or) in front of a live audience ever in my entire life. And I panicked! I totally froze! I couldn?t remember my lines and the writers were yelling. ? I just stood there absolutely completely frozen.?

?(Jen said,) ?Hey, are you OK? You?re kind of freaking me out! You?re going to make a mistake and you?re going to flip your line and whatever ? and the audience is going to love it. Don?t try to be perfect, just try to be yourself.??

?That?s the story that sort of captured Jen the best for me. On one hand, she is this gorgeous breathtaking beauty that men lose their thought process and their speech patterns (over). I?ve actually seen this, it?s incredible when they see her. And, on the other hand, she is a woman who lets you in.?

?There?s not that many people actually that have this incredible combination of sex appeal and complete love-ability. You just want to get your nails done with her, and you want to make out with her at the same time ? at least I do!?

'Glee' Season Finale Exclusive: Listen To 'Yeah!' Here

An a cappella girl group covers Usher's hit for Nationals in next week's episode.

During this week's episode of "Glee", the gang from New Directions took a big risk when they decided they would compete in Nationals by singing their own original songs. Well, the stakes just got a little higher.

MTV News has an exclusive first listen to one of the rival groups who will go up against the McKinley High glee club in New York City during next Tuesday's (May 24) big season two finale. In the upcoming episode, an all-female a cappella group sings Usher's 2004 club and radio smash "Yeah!," which may have the Nationals judges saying just that.

Singers replace synthesizers for the four-note melody that repeats throughout the song, and lead vocalists RaVaughn Brown and Missi Hale match the high energy that Usher, Lil Jon and Ludacris brought to the track.

Granted, a few things have been tweaked in the version for the tween-friendly show, including the length (the original is over four minutes long, while the "Glee" version comes in at three and a half minutes) and the tune's instructions to "Take that and rewind it back ... got the rhythm make ya booty go."

Also, instead of Ludacris' verse, "We want a lady in the street/ And a freak in the bed," one girl sings, "You know you want a kiss on the lips, old red." The line, "Ludacris fill cups like double D's" has also been cut from the song.

But, it's not all PG. At one point in the girls' rendition of the track, they page homage to Lil Jon's crunk hit "Get Low," singing, "From the windows to the walls" and even Mystikal's booty-happy single "Shake Ya Ass," when they urge, "Show me whatcha' workin' with."

At the 2005 Grammy Awards, the power trio of Usher, Lil Jon and Ludacris won the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Yeah!" But, will the song bring the same sort of fortune to this girl group at Nationals? Or will the glory all belong to New Directions this time? Gleeks will still have to wait a few more days to find out.

The "Glee" season finale airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. on Fox, while "Glee": The Music, Volume 6, including the three new original songs "Light Up the World," "Pretending" and "As Long as You're There," will be available on Monday.

What do you think of this a cappella group's version of "Yeah!"? Let us know in the comments section below!

Lindsay Lohan Probation Revoked!

In not so surprising news, Lindsay Lohan?s probation has been revoked. Lilo certainly doesn?t seem to be learning her lesson, does she? Judge Stephanie Sautner has revoked Lindsay Lohan?s probation and ordered a probation hearing to take place on Wednesday, November 2nd. The sometimes actress was handcuffed and taken into custody. However I am sure she won?t be there for long as Judge Sautner set a $100,000 bail, which I am sure Lohan will post any minute. This latest drama involving the train wreck that is Lindsay is due to her getting the boot from the Downtown Women’s Center where she was ordered by the same to complete her community service hours. I watched the live stream of this hearing and let me say it was so freaking good. To hear LiLo?s attorney Shawn Holley argue that Lindsay?s ?job? took her out of town and that is why the DWC kicked her out was laughable, especially when Holley said ?She’s supposed to be an actress, from what I hear?. Oh yes this was not just a drama filled court appearance it was comical as well. The attorney went on to talk about how Lindsay supports her family, yada yada yada. [...]

Do Foo Fighters Know Robert Pattinson From Robert Plant?

During band's rehearsal break for Sunday's Movie Awards, we put Foos to the test.

UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Hard rock, heavy metal, hardcore and punk have long gone hand-in-hand with evil wizards, magic, vampires and werewolves. And with a collective sub-cultural pedigree that includes stints in the Germs, No Use for a Name, Sunny Day Real Estate, Scream and some band called Nirvana, you'd think the Foo Fighters — set to perform at Sunday's Movie Awards — would know their "Potter" from their Zeppelin. Certainly they can recognize a "wand" reference and pinpoint its origin?

Right? Before we put MTV News' magically crafted trivia to the band, it seemed safe to assume the Foos would accurately distinguish between the words of Harry Potter, a "Twilight" character and Led Zeppelin. But was their underground nerd cred blown to shreds? Read on — and click the video! — to see how the Foo Fighters fared when we caught up with them on the Universal Studios lot, shortly after they finished rehearsing their Movie Awards performance.

Our own Jim Cantiello played dungeon master as Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear were given a series of semi-famous lines and asked whether they originated with "Harry Potter," the "Twilight Saga" or the lyrics of hard-rock pioneers Led Zeppelin.

Here's a sampling of a few of those one-liners:

» "The elder wand, the most powerful wand ever made."

» "Why don't you let me be yours ever truly? Can I make your garden grow?"

» "You're lying, Dolores! You mustn't tell lies!"

Can you guess whether the lines above came from the "Potter" flicks, "Twilight" or Robert Plant?

Watch as the Foos try their best to do exactly that. Then tune in to the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday to catch the Foo Fighters rock the stage with their new single, "Walk."

Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards? Find out June 5, when the 20th annual show airs live at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Tune in at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT that night for the "America's Best Dance Crew" finale and Movie Awards pre-show, loaded with live action from the red carpet, exclusive movie clips and a special edition of "After Hours."
