'Footloose' Stars Love Remake's Nods To Original

New stars name Ariel's red boots, Ren's VW Beetle and Willard's dance montage as their favorite call-outs to 1984 original.

For the "Footloose" purists out there who are worried about how the Kenny Wormald and Julianne Hough-starring remake pays homage to the Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer-led original, fear not: There are more than enough nods to the 1984 dance classic in director Craig Brewer's 2011 version.

When MTV News caught up with the cast and Brewer, who have also assured us that their film stands on its own, we asked them to reveal their favorite scenes that were directly inspired by the original film.

"My red boots," Hough said, speaking to the fancy footwear that both she and Singer's versions of the character Ariel wear.

"The Bug," Wormald said of his and Bacon's characters owning a beat-up Volkswagen Beetle. "And the 'angry dance.' Yeah, and everything. All the nods I think were appropriate.‬"

"I love the flick of the drivers' license from the police‬," Hough added about the moment when Ren is harassed by local law enforcement that was lifted from the first film and repurposed in the second.

"And Willard [Miles Teller] doing the kick-step right through the lockers," Wormald said of the boys' "Let's Hear It for the Boy"-backed dance montage. "That was shot-for-shot, so that's incredible.‬"

Brewer explained why those moments were "must-haves" for him.

"We had to have the 'angry dance.' We had to have the 'teaching Willard how to dance' montage," he said. "And I'm very proud to say it's set to Deniece Williams' original 'Let's Hear It for the Boy.' There's this moment where, like, all these guys are sitting around trying to teach him the gangster walk bounce, and it's set to Deniece Williams' 'Let's Hear It for the Boy.' Where else are you going to see that but in my version of 'Footloose'?" He said with a smile.

"Then, of course, the VW Bug. If you see 'Hustle & Flow,' you'll see I have a love for junky cars. I think they're the most beautiful American statement of 'I don't have a lot, but we're going to do a lot with it,' and the VW Bug, I think, was one of the first of those badass junky cars.‬"

Continuing to promote her new novel ?Devoted,? Hilary Duff was spotted signing books at a Los Angeles, California Barnes & Noble last evening (October 14).

The adorable expectant momma looked radiant for the promotional event, stepping out in a red silk top, leather leggings and strappy black heels.

In other news, Hilary recently opened up about the difficulty she and hubby Mike Comrie are experiencing while trying to decide on a name for their bun in the oven, telling press, "If we give the baby kind of a unique name, we need to give it a normal middle name in case it hates it and wants to like fit in better, and then maybe we just need to go totally traditional."

Duff added, "And we're like, 'How can we be naming it before we even see it?' There's so much to think about!"

Earlier this year, Justin Bieber hopped onstage with Selena Gomez during a stop on her tour, and on Thursday night, she returned the favor. The couple shared the stage as Bieber performed in Rio de Janeiro, his second night in the city on his My World Tour.

As if debuting his Christmas single, "Mistletoe," wasn't enough of a present for his Brazilian fans, they got the chance to see the teen pop couple perform together. Bieber teased the performance in the hours leading up to his big show, tweeting, "Had a lil fun last night in RIO ... show #2 in RIO is 2nite ... got some very special guests with me 2nite. #Mistletoe." He later added, "Hearing @CobraStarship killing it out there ... almost time RIO ... i got a big surprise tonight. #BRAZIL #myworldtour."

Footage from the performance shows Bieber walking offstage as Gomez comes out to sing her song "Who Says." Toward the end of the song, Bieber returned to sing a few lines, and the pair embraced before Gomez exited the stage.

Bieber later tweeted, "RIO!!! CRAZY!! thanks to @selenagomez for helping me do something special for the crowd. a duet never hurt nobody. WHO SAYS."

OK! magazine reports that Tuesday, the pair was spotted touring the city and taking a helicopter ride. On Wednesday night, Gomez was photographed backstage watching her boyfriend perform.

Bieber's next tour stop is Sao Paolo. While rocking South America, Bieber announced he's releasing the official version of his single earlier than originally planned: "Thanks to all the love ITUNES is now releasing #MISTLETOE early ... now coming #OCT17th !!! spread the world ... we r going for our first #1!!" he tweeted.

His November 1 holiday album, Under the Mistletoe, will feature appearances from Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes, Usher and the Band Perry.

'X-Men' Writers Land 'Top Gun' Sequel Gig

Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz in final negotiations to pen upcoming flick.

Just about one year ago, Tony Scott sent his "Top Gun" fans into a frenzy over the news that a sequel is not only planned, but Scott will take the directorial reins on the project. There has been little forward movement since then, but now we have word that "X-Men: First Class" writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have been hired to helm the script.

According to Variety, Miller and Stentz are in final negotiations to get to work on the screenplay, with Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison signed on to produce.

The trade publication claimed that there are no plot details to reveal yet, but we're hoping the "First Class" writing duo sticks with the outline Scott shared with us last year.

"It's not even a reinvention, it's not even a sequel. It's a re-thinking," Scott said of his plans for the sequel. "What inspired me is that the world today is great, it's so different from the world we touched originally. It's really run by guys sitting in Nevada on computers playing war games."

Scott teased that the film will focus on the new generation of fighter pilots. "It's a mixture of that, and it's the end of the generation of fighter pilots. Not in a complete end to the generation, because these guys they go up in F-35s and they carry 10 drones with them. [But] it's a very different movie," he said.

But the most pressing question on everyone's minds is: Will Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer reprise their iconic roles?

"I'm gonna withhold that information," Scott told MTV News. "I can't say anything. I'm talking with Jerry [Bruckheimer], and I'm going to withhold [those other details]."
