With a group of protesters that has grown steadily in numbers, the Occupy Wall Street movement received a one-two celebrity punch Monday (October 10) in the form of supporters Kanye West and Russell Simmons.
The hip-hop heavyweights caused a stir when they visited the demonstrators' "base camp" at Zuccotti Park, where Simmons appeared on Al Sharpton's radio show to speak in support of the group's efforts.
"People are here with an honest heart and honest intentions," Simmons said, according to New York's Daily News. "These young people are our future leaders.
"I'm happy to pay a little more taxes if it means better education for our children," he added. "I don't pay enough taxes, and I know it."
Simmons and West are the latest celebs to jump onboard the Occupy Wall Street movement. When MTV News caught up with Talib Kweli last week, he spoke out about why he's in full support of the protests.
"There's no other place in New York City to be," Kweli told us. "People are taking their destiny in their own hands. This is one of the most American, if not the most American, things that I've ever seen.
"When I see things like Occupy Wall Street, I just try to align myself with things that make sense," he continued. "Shame on me if I know something and don't spread it, you know? If I know, it becomes my responsibility to spread the information."
Occupy Wall Street, which has also spread to cities like Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles, marked its 24th day of protest Monday.

'X Factor' judge clarifies reports that he accused the superstar singers of lacking said factor.

Simon Cowell is conducting damage control following some insulting statements he allegedly made recently. The always outspoken "X Factor" judge reportedly said that Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and even Beyoncé lack the full-scale X factor that he's looking for on his Fox reality show.
So, what got Cowell into so much hot water? "If you only ever heard Lady Gaga, she's the most boring singer in the world," he reportedly told The Mirror. "You've got to see her — you need TV. Same with Beyoncé. Or Katy Perry. We're all about image. You have to have that X factor."
Well, he is now going on the record to let everyone know they've got it all wrong. "This was completely misreported. It's the complete opposite, in fact," Cowell's rep told RadarOnline.com. "Simon is a massive fan of both [Gaga and Beyoncé] and he always refers to them as amongst the artists he most admires. He thinks they are two of the most interesting, talented and relevant artists today."
Cowell himself said, "It's like they've all been bred to take over the world and dominate everything in entertainment. They are unbelievable, these girls."
Noticeably absent from the statement was Perry, but he was specific about why he thinks Gaga and Beyoncé are so great. Beyoncé's "the biggest star we've seen in 20 years; we're seeing sort of the rise of the super female pop star. It's like a different breed. Beyoncé has that," he said.
Gaga "has the X factor. She's smart ... [and] has real ambition. She is a total, utter star. ... You have to be open and embrace this level of expression. You hope to God that you can find someone like her," Cowell said.
"I think somebody like Lady Gaga defines exactly what we're looking for. She's both talented and interesting. She's worked it all out for herself. You never get the feeling somebody is controlling her. Lady Gaga is the most relevant pop artist in the world at the moment. I've met her. She is very smart. I like her," he added.

Though his press reps (including Mo and Kita) have been silent, it's been revealed that an emergency team responded to a possible prescription pill overdose at an apartment were Terrell Owens was staying last week. Get the deets.....
Law enforcement officials have confirmed to TMZ that Terrell Owens was rushed to an L.A. hospital last Thursday.
Although police can't confirm why T.O. was rushed to the hospital, they did say that the emergency team that showed up to his apartment was responding "...to a call about a possible prescription pill overdose."
T.O. has been released from the hospital but no one close to him has spoken out about the situation. It's all a little suspicious since T.O. was also hospitalized back in 2006 for what he said was a bad reaction to painkillers....but the medical reports said he tried to commit suicide by downing 35 Vicodin pills.
Back when that situation happened, T.O. held a press conference and said,
"The rumor of me taking 35 pills, I think is absurd. I don't think I would be here if I had taken 35 pills."
Hmmmm......When it comes to reality tv stars, you never know what is the truth and what is a publicity stunt. I guess we won't get the real deal until next season of T.O., Mo and Kita's show. If there is a next season. Because if this was a gimmick, I'm sure cameras were rolling.
